Summer Financial Aid

groupTo be considered for financial aid for summer sessions, you must:

Federal Pell Grants
If you were eligible for a Pell grant during the 2012/2013 academic year and were not a full-time (i.e. 12 credits or more) student during both the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters, you may be eligible for a Pell grant during the Summer 2013 semester.

Federal Direct Loans
If you wish to apply for a federal Direct (i.e. student) loan for summer study, you must:

  • be enrolled in at least 6 credits during the summer, and
  • indicate that you want to be considered for a summer student loan on the Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application you submit, and
  • Submit a Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (available on the Web at studentloans.gov) if you have not previously done so.

Pennsylvania State Grants
To be considered for a summer Pennsylvania State grant, you must:

  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credits during the summer and
  • have submitted either the 2012/2013 or 2013/2014 FAFSA and
  • submit a 2013 Pennsylvania Summer State Grant Application by August 15, 2013 (usually available from the PHEAA Web site beginning in March).

Important Summer Aid Information for Current Students:
If you are taking spring semester courses, your eligibility for summer financial aid is contingent upon the successful completion of these courses. Because of this, your application for summer aid cannot be processed until after your spring semester grades are posted. Therefore, if you are taking Spring semester courses, you will need to pay for your summer I semester course(s) by the tuition due date with your own funds.

If your summer financial aid award is based on your enrollment in both summer semesters, aid funds will not be disbursed until after the start of the summer II semester (in order to verify enrollment). Consequently, student refunds will not be issued until after the start of the summer II semester.
