Eight students from Northampton Community College were chosen to present their papers in the 2010 Beacon Contest for Student Scholars at Two-Year Colleges.  The annual conference showcases the writing, research and presentation skills of students at community colleges throughout Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.

This year's conference was held on June 4 at SUNY Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York. Presenters included:

Paul Glenn:  "Racism Creatively Depicted:  'Battle Royal' Symbolizes Racism Post Abolition of Slavery." Glenn's faculty mentor was Shauna Gobble, assistant professor of English.

The students' papers were judged by a panel of volunteer readers on quality and originality of research and writing. Categories cover a wide range of disciplines ranging from the arts, literature and philosophy to allied health, gender studies and technology. The top three papers in each category are selected for presentation at the conference, which is sponsored by a coalition of member colleges.

Krautter was the winner in the Educational Division. Other NCC winners included Tremper and Majczan.
