Northampton Community College has become the first community college in Pennsylvania to be listed in the "EDU" directory on the popular video sharing site, YouTube.

YouTube EDU was launched in March of last year (2009) to give students and parents from around the world a chance to explore different colleges online on one website.

To be granted YouTube EDU status, a college or university's YouTube channel needs to offer a substantial amount of content, including videos with educational value.

Northampton Community College's channel includes videos of life on campus and videos that showcase academic programs and student talents.  New videos are added almost every week.

Celisa Counterman, a math professor at the Monroe Campus, and Mary Zegarski, a computer science professor, are among the faculty members who have incorporated video projects in their courses.  Students in one of Counterman's college algebra classes produced a video on how to eradicate gypsy moths, an environmental issue they put the numbers to.  Zegarski's computer technology students created a video explaining a few new features of Windows 7.

Northampton Community College's video selections also include a tour of the College's art gallery, vocal and dance performances, tips on study skills, interviewing for jobs, and even getting a flu shot.  They have been viewed over 30,000 times in the past fifteen months.

NCC's YouTube channel is named for the College's mascot, Sam Spartan.  To check it out, go to www.youtube.com/samspartanncc.
