Dr. Arthur L. Scott was installed as President of Northampton Community College in July of 2003.
Dr. Scott holds the Ed.D. and M.Ed., both from Lehigh University, and a bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College. While studying at Lehigh, he was named a University Scholar and received the Matthew W. Gaffney Award for Academic Excellence.
Since joining the staff in 1976, Dr. Scott has served Northampton in many ways: first as director of records, then as director of admissions, vice president of student affairs, chief labor negotiator, overseer of college services, as provost, and now as president. In addition to his duties at Northampton, he has also served as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Lehigh University. Early in his career, he was a high school teacher.
Active in the community, Dr. Scott currently serves on the boards of the St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network, Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, Inc., Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturers Resource Center. He served as the 2008 Light the Night Corporate Walk Chair for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
In past years, Dr. Scott was instrumental in the creation of one United Way for the Lehigh Valley during his tenure as chair of the board of United Way of Northampton and Warren counties. He helped to found Leadership Lehigh Valley and is a past chair of its board. Dr. Scott was also president of the board of directors of Community Services for Children, and past chairman of PA Campus Compact.
In 2008, Dr. Scott was the recipient of the YWCA of Bethlehem Velvet Hammer Award for outstanding commitment to racial justice. In 2004 he was honored with the Inez and Edward Donley Award for Advocacy for Children presented by Community Services for Children.
