I recently counted things up and discovered to my surprise that I’ve been teaching for 20 years. I still recall how thrilled I was in my first teaching job, and I continue to feel it is a wonderful privilege to be in the classroom.

I have worked at Yantai University in the People’s Republic of China and at the Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University. In addition, I also served in the English Department, in the English as a Second Language Program, and in the Environmental Initiative at Lehigh University. At Northampton Community College I currently serve as an adjunct instructor as well as Assistant Dean.

My interests include teaching Adult Sunday School, 18th Century British literature, and pretty much any subject that allows me to explore the history of technology. I love Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights and Modern Times, Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park and Patrick O’Brian’s loopy ornate writing style. I still haven’t read War and Peace, Boswell’s Life of Samuel Johnson, Richardson’s Pamela, or the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. So I have lots to learn, and for a teacher, that seems just right.
