Carol Archibald graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She has completed graduate credits in Child Care Administration from Wheelock College of Boston, Massachusetts and was awarded Wheelock’s Gwen Morgan Scholarship, in 1998.
Carol has been employed in the child care field since 1988, serving in various positions. This work history includes being the Executive Director, of a non-profit school-age child care center in an urban setting for over eight years. In addition, she has taught the School-Age Child Care Specialized Diploma Program at Northampton Community College, since 2000. She adapted and developed the School-Age Child Care Curriculum for the Distance Learning Program at Northampton Community College, in 2001 and Out-of-School Programming for Middle School Youth, in 2003.
Along with teaching at the Community College, she is employed as a teacher for Computer Tots and is the Tutoring Coordinator for The Learning ARC (Academic Reinforcement and Coaching) Program located at The Salvation Army in Allentown. This program recruits and trains volunteers to function as tutors for elementary school students. The tutors work one on one with these children to promote literacy, advance academic achievement, and support school attendance.
Carol has been a member of the National School Age Child Care Alliance since1994 and the Pennsylvania School-Age Child Care Alliance since 1997. She recently finished serving her third term on the Board of Directors for Penn SACCA (Pennsylvania School-Age Child Care Association), where she continues to be a member.
Carol has served as a school-age child care consultant and trainer to Lehigh Valley, PA child care centers, since 1998. She is a Pennsylvania Pathways approved TQAS trainer. She was a member of the Pennsylvania and Lehigh County Chambers of Commerce, from 1997 – 2001 and was nominated for the 2000 Athena Award for business leadership and professional support of women.
She has promoted quality early childhood education by acting as a child care consultant and teacher trainer to Eastern Pennsylvania child care centers. She faithfully advocates for increased availability of high quality child care, especially for single parents and low income families through her membership in numerous local and national professional organizations. She and her husband spend a portion of their free time mentoring a twelve year old boy.
