CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING

      Child Development Associate

NCC accepts the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential as equivalent to EARL109 Introduction to Early Childhood and EARL 202 Society and the Child.  The following procedure is to be followed:

      1.  Complete the Admission Process to NCC.
 2.  Send your name, address, telephone number and a copy of the CDA credential you received from the Council for Professional Recognition to:  Rebecca Gorton, Early Childhood Education, Northampton Community College, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem, PA 18020.

*There is no cost attached to this process.

     TECH PREP

The Family and Consumer Sciences Tech Prep Program allows high school graduates to enter NCC with 6 credits in Early Childhood Education. These are advanced placement credits which means that the student does not have to take EARL109 Introduction to Early Childhood Education or EARL202 Society and the Child.

Students qualify for these credits upon successful completion of a Family and Consumer Science/Tech Prep portfolio. Portfolios are submitted by April and reviewed by a portfolio committee comprised of NCC/ECE faculty and Family and Consumer Science teachers. All papers included in the portfolio must be graded and have a grade of B or greater.

Challenge Portfolio Assessment

Students who believe, based on their prior experiences, that they have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to meet the outcomes of a particular course may complete a final assessment portfolio. The final assessment portfolio will be the same one that is required by students taking the course. A professor who teaches that course will do the grading of the portfolio. The same criteria applied to credit students' work will be used for determining a grade.
