WORKSITE AND OFF-CAMPUS LABS
Worksite Labs and Off-Campus Labs are for students who work thirty-hours a week or more in an early care and education facility, or who live outside a commuting distance to an NCC campus. These labs are arranged in coordination with your course instructor. You are to apply all Campus Lab Procedures and Guidelines for acting professionally and being prepared to your worksite or off-campus lab.
Work Site Labs
If you work in a Child Care Center or Elementary School (Primary Grades):
Before beginning lab:
The worksite lab administrator signs an NCC Worksite/Off Campus Lab Understanding of Participation form which commits the program to providing you with a cooperating teacher. The completed form must be returned to NCC via fax (610-861-4110) or mail (Reibman Hall, Attn. Erin, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem, PA 18020).
The cooperating teacher is expected to:
Ø Allow the student to complete the lab assignments required by the faculty.
Ø Provide objective verbal and written feedback to the student and the college supervisor based on the NCC Teaching Skills and Strategies recorded on the Lab Student Observation Form.
Ø Complete an NCC Teaching Skills and Strategies Form as requested by the college supervisor.
If you are a Family Child Care Provider:
Ø You may do labs in your home. Documentation of lab work will occur through the use of photos and videotape. Your course instructor will provide guidelines.
Ø If your Family Child Care Home is within the supervision territory of the college instructor, the instructor will do a site visit. If outside this territory, reporting and feedback will occur via phone conversation or email.
Off-Campus Labs
Ø Off-campus labs are assigned by your course instructor in order to provide you with a particular experience and/or when there is not an appropriate space available on campus. When this happens, the course instructor makes all contacts and arrangements.
