Creating unique spaces: Hidden inside every space is the potential for calmness, warmth, productivity, or energy. The shapes, colors, light exposure and overall layout of a room can set the mood for the happenings inside of it. Interior designers must be able to envision what is hidden inside a space to capitalize on its unique features.
Whether a space needs to be enhanced or redesigned from scratch, a good Interior Designer will be able to create a uniquely defined ambiance that caters to the functional requirements of the space - and they must do so while working within the budgetary constraints and the imagination of clients.
NCC's Interior Design program includes a broad range of courses that will provide students with communication skills as well as an architectural history background, and graphics presentation and lighting design skills.
Each of the four semesters of the program focuses on a specific set of skills that students will take with them to a four-year institution or into the workforce. Presentation and structure are covered in the middle of the program, with design studio experience rounding out the final semester. Another unique feature of the program is its emphasis on computer-aided drafting design (CADD). Design firms and home improvement centers are looking for team members with CADD education and experience.
The faculty and advisory committee are members of the American Institute of Architects and American Society of Interior Designers; students are encouraged to get involved with the Institute, which enriches the curriculum with field studies and related extracurricular activities.
