Call to action

Voice your support for funding of Northampton Community College and all community colleges throughout Pennsylvania by contacting our state senators and representatives today!

At the current time the Governor’s budget contains:

  • NO new capital dollars for the Commonwealth’s 14 community colleges. (That same budget proposal recommends $242 million in new capital dollars for PASSHE and the state-related universities.)
  • A request for a 3% operating dollar increase for the upcoming fiscal year.  (Note that this does not cover the increase we will have in students but is the maximum that was advised to seek.)

The sample letter summarizes the College’s concerns for the 2008-09 budget related to community college funding.  I encourage you to take the time to call, write or email your local state senator or rep and share your concern for these issues and voice your support for an increase in community college funding for the upcoming fiscal year.

As alumni of Northampton, we have a powerful message to send to the State.  Our community college education has provided us the foundation to obtain jobs that strengthen our local economy.  We are college-educated residents who live, work, learn and play in Pennsylvania.  Our community colleges deserve the funding, which in turn supports initiatives that educate our residents.

By contacting your local members of the General Assembly, we are working together to increase awareness of the benefits and economic payoff that Northampton Community College provides to our community.

To find your state senator/rep, visit www.pasen.gov and enter your zip code in the "Find Members By" box in the upper corner.

It is with united voices that we will be heard during these negotiations.  Thank you for your continued support of Northampton - your time following through with this request is greatly appreciated!
