Richard Metzger

Richard Metzger began teaching three levels of non-credit class guitar at NCC in 1993 and currently teaches at the Fowler Center.

Richard is also the Technical Head of the Arts Online Division at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, as well as a member of the music faculty. He holds a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology and trained as a classical guitarist and lutenist, but now focuses on jazz guitar.

Metzger deals with different levels of musicians from beginner to intermediate/advanced, so his approach differs with each group. One goal stays constant with all groups: striving to get musicians to play well as soon as possible over a broad range of styles, but also cultivating functional skills so that each musician can pursue their own musical interests. Metzger also cultivates a sense of history for the music and skills.
