Presents
School-Age Child Care Specialized Diploma

The School-Age Child Care Specialized Diploma program provides both new and experienced providers with the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement a high quality school-age program, and for becoming a professional in this field. The curriculum is based on the current national standards for this profession from the National Afterschool Alliance (formerly NSACA) Standards for Quality School Age Care and has been aligned with the Child Development Associate (CDA), the Pennsylvania Core Body of Knowledge and Pennsylvania's Keystone Stars Standards.

The program is offered as three, three-credit course series. Courses are taken in consecutive order with knowledge building from course to course. Each cohort (class) of students remains together throughout the series, creating a community of learners. A Northampton Community College Specialized Diploma is received upon satisfactory completion of the program.

How will I learn? What will I do?
Each course is divided into 15 weeks. Each week's learning involves assignments, narrative papers, web-based activities and on-line discussion forums. These enhance your learning experience and support the work you do everyday with school age children.

What is the advantage of Web-based learning?
Web-based learning allows you to do the course on your own time. Class requires an equivalent amount of time as a campus class, 7 to 8 hours on average. You can log on and off at your convenience. Many assignments will be part of your work with school age children.

Does Keystone Stars recognize the School Age Child Care Specialized Diploma?
Yes, this specialized diploma program is recognized by the Keystone Stars program as equivalent to the CDA requirement for employees of School Age Child Care programs and can be applied to the PA Key Credential.

How long does it take to complete the SACC diploma?
The course work takes three semesters or about one year– one course a semester for a total of 135 hours and 9 credits.
