Subject: "Fuente Ovejuna," NCC’s Bilingual Spring Play

NCC Theatre will be presenting Lope De Vega's play "Fuente Ovejuna" in the spring. We'll open the first weekend in April (4,5,9,11,12). I've proposed this play for several reasons:

* It speaks to the need for people to come together in the face of oppression.
* It is a grand play with superb characterizations and action.
* I believe our community will support this play because it will show in English and in Spanish.
* I believe this play is one of the playwright's best, yet receives scant attention.
* It will show at a time of national decision-making (April 22-PA Primary) and when issues that affect the working class are closely tied to national policy.
* It has moments of grandeur and music.

I ask you to reach out to students to see if they would be interested in participating. Would they like to act in the show, assist with rehearsals, play music, paint sets, etc.? I would also appreciate assistance with translation issues, historical background information, participation in audience discussions prior to and/or after performances, partnering with school groups or community organizations, using the play in your classes, etc.?

Auditions won't take place until February, but much of the design and mission of any play happens well before an actor is even seen.
