Introduction to Psychology

Tutoring is available in the learning center for any student, it is provided by a student who has taken my class before, and therefore can be especially helpful to you. There is no charge for this service, so please take advantage of it. Room 90.

Some chapter outlines:
Chapter 1 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter7 Chapter 8
Chapter 9 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 14 cont.

Feel free to print these out, alter them to allow room for notes, whatever works for you! You will notice that I do not have outlines for every chapter we cover -- if you find the outlines useful you can use the text and make these outlines yourself.

Web pages that might be of interest to students:

Remember, any of the interactive websites listed here are not intended to give psychological advice, but only to help you understand the material we cover in class. In other words, for educational/entertainment purposes only. If you find yourself upset by any of the sites, please see your teacher, or one of the members of the counseling staff.

Here you will find a links page that will take you to several sites that address this question in depth. -- Find databases tricky? This one is very straight forward and has more resources than anyone could possibly need. It is free, you can access it from home, and use it for classes other than psychology -- a winner! The only warning is that sometimes the articles will be from non-academic sites, but keep looking, there are plenty of journal articles here too.

--We will discuss personality tests in class in chapter 13, but you might want to start the semester off by checking your personality type at the site listed below. Some people work better in groups -- if your results show this, you might want to start a study group. Others learn better individually or creatively, and if your results show this you can plan your project accordingly. This test is free, but others you can find through this site are not.

--In Chapter 12 we will discuss the difference between the "social smile" and the "Duchenne smile." On the website listed here you will have the chance to test your own ability to distinguish between the two with an interactive test. Keep smiling!

--When doing research in psychology it only makes sense to try to limit your search to relevant articles. On the NCC libraries page you will find the path to PsycArticles, which is one good source. Below is a link to an APA sponsored search engine which will work from your home computer and may give you even more resources. Keep hunting!
