The specialized diploma programs prepare students to efficiently and adequately deal with the challenges faced in very diverse work environments. Each of these territories comes with unique challenges. A career in resort management could lead to some of the most beautiful places in the world, where guest satisfaction dominates the front lines. Supervising a slots floor at a casino could mean a vibrant workplace that requires nonstop energy. Overseeing restaurant operations could mean becoming absorbed in creative culinary excellence while never running out of patience to deal with customers.
The curriculums for Resort Management, Casino Operations and Dining Room Operations emphasize major segments of the tourism industry, where students will be exposed to aspects of operating and managing busy, in-demand hotels, gaming establishments, and eateries. The curriculums put students on the pulse on some of the finer points of these demanding and rewarding careers, and encompass broad training in all aspects of the hospitality field. Students are asked to develop specialized skills that are unique to the area of their choice, while all three programs are linked by special emphasis on guest services, leadership and sales & marketing.
Students who major in Dining Room Operations will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by serving patrons in the Hampton Winds, the college's gourmet restaurant and training ground for the Culinary Arts program.
