Spotlight On Distance Learning
November 30, 2007

It is their mission – and they have chosen to accept it. Meet the team behind the Office of Distance Learning and find out exactly what services they provide to NCC students, faculty, and staff.

In A Nutshell
Our office supports the many students who enroll in online and hybrid courses (online courses that include face-to-face meeting times) each semester. We answer student questions about online learning and collaborate with other student offices to create new ways in which students enrolled in online and hybrid courses access student services (e.g., online tutoring, online academic advising). We also hire and train faculty who are interested in becoming online instructors.

You’ll be Surprised to Learn . . .
There are over 2500 students enrolled in at least one distance learning course this semester. These students not only reside in Pennsylvania but many other states and countries including Russia.

Busiest Time of Year
You will find our office handling many emails and phone calls from students interested in taking distance learning courses a couple of weeks before the start of any given semester.

Funniest Moment
Not sure on this one…we occasionally receive a question from a student by phone or email in which he/she asks if they need a computer to take our online courses.

Proudest Moment
One of our proudest moments is when our office finally moved to a larger location in Kopecek Hall earlier this year and when we had our first open house after we moved. This moment will change next year when we celebrate the 10th year anniversary of online courses at NCC.

The One Thing they’d like you to Know about the Office of Distance Learning
We are a small office but we work very hard to provide the best customer service to our students and faculty. We have a great working relationship within our office as well as with our distance learning faculty. We are excited about providing students with access to an education they might not otherwise have without online and hybrid courses.
