If you have not received your latest copy of The Bethlehem Recycler, the quarterly newsletter of the Bethlehem Recycling Bureau, you’ve missed some important information about Bethlehem ’s Spring Electronics Collection.

If you’ve upgraded your home computer, television, or other electronics, the Bureau, together with AERC Recycling Solutions of Allentown is holding a special collection of electronic waste on Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12; from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; in the parking lot between the Ice Skating Rink and Memorial Swimming Pool on Illick’s Mill Road.

The Bureau points out that many electronic components contain heavy metals like lead, cadmium and gold; very valuable to recyclers, but not safe in a landfill. Know that there is a small fee for most electronics – very small, like $1.50 for a laptop, keyboard, printer, microwave oven, and a number of other items; the top cost is $5 (for a copier), and batteries are just .75/lb.

They also make clear that this is an electronics collection and not an electric appliance collection. If you are not sure, or for more information, call 610 865-7082. And if you don’t receive the newsletter, you might take this opportunity to get on their mailing list.
