Well, almost. The range and depth of knowledge that exists at
Northampton Community College is truly impressive. A new online directory showcases that expertise for prospective students and for the public.
The "Faculty and Staff Experts List" posted last week is expected to be a useful tool for prospective students who are checking out the college, as well as for reporters who need expert sources, high school teachers interested in hosting guest lecturers, and members of organizations like Rotary and Kiwanis who are looking for speakers.
The directory was compiled by Julie Nay, a student from DeSales University who interned in NCC's Public Information Office this semester. "The experts' list reflects the College's commitment to excellence and to engagement," says the office's director, Heidi Butler. "It is a way of reaching out to the community and being of service. We are grateful to the faculty and staff members who have agreed to participate."
The directory includes the names and credentials of close to 150 faculty and staff members with expertise in fields ranging from aquatic ecosystems to Virginia Woolf. One of the first people to visit the site was Sarah Thayer, curator of educational programs for the Lehigh County Historical Society. She was impressed. "It offers all kinds of possibilities," she said. She has already booked a speaker. Dr. Michael McGovern, vice president for academic affairs at NCC, will be featured this summer in the Historical Society's noon speakers' series.
