The many different ways you can get “Fit for Life” were on display Tuesday, March 27, at the
Spartan
Center
for NCC’s annual health fair.
Worried about your blood pressure or cholesterol level? Nurses from St. Luke’s Hospital were on hand to check either for you. Trying to quit smoking, or get someone you love to do so? GlaxoSmithKline, maker of a variety of nicotine-replacement products, had a smoking cessation consultant to provide you with information.
Questions about sexuality? The Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley (CSSOLV) had tables for both HIV awareness and their abstinence education program. Planned Parenthood promoted birth control awareness and Sexually Transmitted Disease prevention at their table.
Got back pain? Dr. Scott Schaeffer, a Bethlehem chiropractor, was prepared to screen you for neurological function with an infrared thermography device. Foot pain? Advanced Foot Care was on hand to counsel you about treatment options.
Healthy and environmentally friendly behaviors were promoted at tables sponsored by Valley Youth House (drug and alcohol abuse education and prevention), the Coalition for a Smoke-Free Lehigh Valley (anti-smoking legislation), and the Environmental Task Force (recycling.) NCC’s own bookstore offered healthy snacks and a chance to win a snack food gift package.
For fun, you could enter the free throw or 3-point basketball contest to try and win an NCC Spartans t-shirt. Or pedal your legs off on a stationary bike for a chance to win a 50/50 pot in the “How Fast Can You Ride a Mile?” competition, sponsored by the NCC Cycling Club. NCC’s JAM steppers club also performed.

If you were looking to relieve some stress, petting the beautiful greyhounds who were visiting courtesy of First State Greyhound Rescue fit the bill. You could even achieve the sense of well-being that comes from giving by donating a dollar to NCC’s Sports Management Club’s March of Dimes drive.
