It seem that so many good things come colored in green: spring, the earth, St. Patrick’s Day, money – Shrek! (okay, greeny three week old bread may be the one exception). And everyone knows that the Environmental Task Force’s green heart pumps recycled green blood, for sure! So, if green is the new gold, join in and show the world you’ve got a soulful of Green Love.
But do remember, it’s not just recycled, it’s “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!” We need it all. Here are just a few earth tips that help define that most beautiful of rainbow hues:
Old or broken household goods such as toasters, transistor radios, etc., can be re-used by others for their various parts. Why not sell them at a garage sale, or donate them to a worthy cause (Maybe something environmental?)
Carry a supermarket bag with you when you’re out walking; pick up glass (be careful – gloves might be a good idea), and all manner of carry-able litter. Just getting the lighter stuff can make our community look, feel and maybe even smell, a lot cleaner.
Churches, schools and kindergartens often need boxes, plastic bags, old buttons, used wrapping paper, greeting cards, ribbons, tiles, crockery and a lot more, for things like art projects. They may also want old phones, keyboards, etc., as toys that double as learning tools. Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and boxes can also be used to wrap someone else's presents (take care next time you’re ripping into your own presents); and jars can be recycled by using them to hold home preserves, nails and screws, change – and things limited pretty much by size and your imagination.
