The Learning Connection Offers Incentives to Grow

Spring is here and it’s time to plant the seeds for success. Enhance and grow professionally by attending The Learning Connection’s many springtime offerings. One- and two-day workshops will be delivered by LDI’s experienced facilitators in Alumni Hall Room 130 C&D throughout the months of April through May, and we’d love to have you join us!

Facilitation: Helping Groups Succeed is an exploration of group dynamics and the tools and techniques that encourage people to do great things. It will be offered on April 13 in Alumni Hall Room 130 C&D.

Time Mastery on April 17 in Alumni Hall Room 130 C&D will help you develop an individualized approach to mastering time use in today’s fast-paced work environment. Learn four basic principles about time that can change your daily experience from feeling overwhelmed to being in control. Get more done each day while carving out more time for you. Please bring your calendar and any personal planning tools with you to the workshop.

Basic Management Skills will be presented on April 19. If you are new to, or being developed for, a first-line supervisory role, this program provides you with the fundamental knowledge necessary to supervise work and people. An overview of planning, organizing, controlling, communicating, motivating and performance management, this highly interactive learning experience is an excellent lead into several of the other management development programs currently being offered.

Better Business Writing is a one-day workshop scheduled for April 24 in Hartzell Hall Room 177. Learn how to get the results you want from your business memos, e-mail messages, letters and proposals. Multiple exercises designed specifically for this workshop help you organize your ideas, form attention-grabbing sentences, use action words to persuade, and build an overall style. Handouts and examples clarify correct approaches for conveying ideas, writing effectively and with impact. You will be able to put this information into practice immediately.

No prior experience is necessary if you’re interested in the Introduction to Project Management workshop on April 26. Learn the basics of the project life cycle including the tools used: work breakdown structure, task lists and issue lists. Understand how Gantt charts are constructed using Excel and how to communicate the project management process to others.

Effective Interactions and Handling Conflict is a two-day workshop for all audiences scheduled for May 2-3. It explores active listening, non-verbal communications and the difference between constructive assertiveness and passive acceptance. If you are interested in discovering how to effectively interact with others and increase your personal effectiveness in resolving conflict, this program is for you.

The foundation program for our Leadership Development series is offered on May 9-11 in Alumni Hall Room 130 C&D. Practices of Successful Leaders is three-day workshop providing an in-depth understanding of the critical success factors of high performing leaders. It is researched based, highly interactive, and considered by many as the best leadership development opportunity available. It combines facilitator-led reviews of leadership research and video case studies to provide you with an opportunity to develop a plan to enhance your own leadership. Join LDI Co-directors, Don Robertson and Donna Goss, in a journey of exploration into the heart of leadership.

Valuing People’s Differences takes place on May 15. It is designed for anyone interested in building his or her awareness of the benefits and importance of valuing all people in the work environment. Success in business is ultimately about people and relationships. The better we meet each other’ s needs, the better we all succeed. This workshop clarifies the reasons why valuing differences is good for business.

If your responsibilities include instructing others, please consider registering for the Coaching for Improved Performance workshop offered on May 21. Understand what coaching means, how to improve your skills in this area and what behaviors you can focus on for improvement.

Working with Teams enables participants to provide more effective team leadership and to be more productive team members. Learn what an effective team looks like and discover the most successful tools and methods for developing and enabling efficient teamwork. This program will be conducted on May 23.
