Good Summer Pickins for Guitar Players
It’s every guitar-lover’s dream. For the past five years Northampton Community College has worked in concert with C. F. Martin & Company, in nearby Nazareth, Pennsylvania, to provide acoustic guitar fans with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design their own playable three-dimensional model guitar with coaching from the pros who build the world-famous Martin guitars. The fantasy camp has drawn participants from all over the United States and Canada. Although their day jobs may be very different, what they share is a passion for acoustic guitars that are acclaimed to be among the finest in the world.
In addition to learning from renowned guitarmaker Dale Unger and Tim Teel, C.F. Martin & Company’s director of instrument design, guitar aficionados who enroll in this summer’s session (August 6-10) will have a chance to tour C. F. Martin & Company’s factory, guitar museum and new sound room, and to compete for prizes that include a Martin 16 Series guitar, a Martin X Series guitar, and a Little Martin guitar. Tuition of $1149 includes instruction, lab time, materials, lunches, a Backpacker guitar and a musical performance. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Inexpensive housing is available on campus. To register, call toll-free 1-877-543-0998 and refer to course code CALA2066-40. Northampton Community College is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, about an hour north of Philadelphia and an hour and a half from New York City.
