Dental Hygiene Professor from NCC Honored by National Organization

The American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Sherri L. Meyers, professor of dental hygiene at Northampton Community College (NCC), as a recipient of the 2006 ADHA Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and dedication to the profession of dental hygiene.

Meyers received her associate of applied science degree in dental hygiene from NCC. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and to complete her master's degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She returned to NCC as a faculty member in 1988.

Meyers was honored during the opening ceremonies of the American Dental Hygienists' Association's annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, earlier this summer. The organization represents the professional interests of more than 120,000 dental hygienists across the country.

Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. More than 1000 students have graduated from Northampton Community College's dental hygiene program in the last 30+ years. They are in high demand and are among the highest paid of all the College's graduates.
