Latin Jazz/Classical Quartet To Perform at NCC
October 26, 2006

The Carpentier Quartet, known for energetic renditions of repertoire from jazz to folk to classical music, will perform at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 16 at Northampton Community College ’s (NCC) Main Campus, Laub Lounge, 3835 Green Pond Road , Bethlehem Township. There will also be a performance at the College’s Monroe Campus, 3 Old Mill Road , Tannersville, on the same day at 3:00 p.m.

The quartet is dedicated to the performance and promotion of Latin America’s diverse musical history and the development of the contemporary Latino voice. It is their practice to spotlight lesser-known masterworks alongside newly commissioned pieces and the group’s own arrangements. The quartet, founded in 1993 when its members were students at the Julliard School of Music, has appeared on television and at Carnegie Hall and with the American Ballet Theatre Company.

A recent recipient of the Residency Partnership Program Grant, the quartet has an educational and performance residency at El Museo del Barrio, in New York City.

The performance is part of “Celebrating Hispanic Heritage at Northampton Community College” a roster of events during the 2006-2007 school year. These events include panel discussions by Latino professional women, popular and jazz concerts, and a Cinco de Mayo celebration.
