NCC Offers Classes and Camp for Youth at Fowler Family Southside Center

Northampton Community College (NCC) introduces Camp Southside, for children entering grades 1 – 3 and 4-7 at its new Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third Street, Bethlehem. Children can enjoy the center’s two activity/dance rooms, two art classrooms, a computer lab, a demo kitchen and a reading room as they participate in projects and activities related to weekly themes. Activities include cooking, art, acting, movement, and others.

Fees are based on the number of hours per week that your child is enrolled.

The camp will run from Monday, July 9 – Friday, August 17, from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and noon – 6:00 p.m. Campers may also register for Horizons for Youth classes, which run during the 9:00 – noon hours that the camp is closed. Call 1-877-543-0998 for a catalog and the required health form.

Kids Creations. Make concoctions with magic paint, spaghetti art and much more. Monday – Friday, July 9 – 13. Fee: $69 plus $12 for materials

Outer Space Adventures. Learn about the sun, planets, stars, and other phenomena. Friday, July 9 – 13. Fee: $69 plus $10 for materials

Introduction to Theater. Be in a real production and make props and scenery. Monday – Friday, July 16 – 27. Fee: $138 plus $12 for materials.

Writing Books with Dr. Seuss. Create your own Seuss-like stories. Monday – Friday, July 16 – 20. Fee: $69 plus $9 for materials.

Chef for a Day. Make the meals that the TV stars have made popular. Monday – Friday, July 23 – 27. Fee: $69 plus $16 for materials.

Drawing, Painting, Sculpture. Create art with pencils, paint, pastels, and model magic. Monday – Friday, July 23 – 27. Fee: $69 plus $14 for materials.

Introduction to Cheering. Practice cheers, dances and jumps. Monday – Friday, July 30 – August 3. Fee: $69 plus $8 for materials.

All About Animals. Learn about your favorite animals and some you’ve never heard of before! Do artwork, visit the computer lab. Monday – Friday, August 6 – 10. Fee: $69 plus $10 for materials.

Fun Group Games. Play games with balls, jump ropes and other equipment. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Fee: $69 plus $8 for materials.

Cooking and Spanish. Cook Spanish food and learn Spanish words and expressions. Monday – Friday, August 13 – 17. Fee: $69 plus $16 for materials.

For students entering grades 4 – 7:

Cartoon Drawing. Draw your own comic strips with features, action and gestures. Monday – Friday, July 9 – 13. Fee: $69 plus $10 for materials.

Cooking with a BAM! Make Emeril-style food for the whole family. Monday through Friday, July 9 – 13. Fee: $69 plus $16 for materials.

Ice Cream Truck Business. Build an ice cream truck on a computer, then create ice cream flavors in the kitchen. Also learn about pricing, costs and marketing. Monday through Friday, July 16 - 20. Fee: $81 plus $10 for materials.

Nutrition and Fitness Training. Create healthy snacks and use balance balls and weights to jump start your cardiovascular fitness. Monday – Friday, July 16 – 20. Fee: $69 plus $10 for materials.

Concert Tour Manager. Put your problem-solving skills into gear by designing a concert tour for your favorite group. Monday – Friday, July 23 – 27. Fee: $81 plus $4 for materials.

Weird Science Experiments. Do awesome science experiments and learn about scientific principles. Monday through Friday, July 23 – 27. Fee: $69 plus $14 for materials.

Foods from Around the World. Create and eat foods from many countries while learning about different cultures. Monday through Friday, July 30 – August 3. Fee: $69 plus $16 for materials.

Introduction to Acting. Join us for creative exercises in movement, pantomime and improvisation. Also make your own props and scenery. Monday through Friday, July 30 – August 10. Fee: $138 plus $12 for materials.

Chinese Culture and Cooking. Cook recipes, learn some Chinese characters and words and Chinese customs. Monday through Friday, August 6 – 10. Fee: $69 plus $16 for materials.

Gizmos, Gadgets and Contraptions. Build rubber band-powered merry-go-rounds, catapults and more while learning science concepts. Monday through Friday, August 13 – 17. Fee: $69 plus $12 for materials.
