Art
as a Way of Learning Presented at National Conference
Three members of Northampton Community College’s Early Childhood Education Program gave a presentation on Art as a Way of Learning at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Conference on November 7. The conference was held in Chicago, Illinois.
NCC’s Early Childhood Education and Art as a Way of Learning Director Rebecca Gorton, Anu Sachdev, assistant director, and Bill Christine, artist in residence, presented “Getting to the heART of Professional Development Training,” in conjunction with Pat Pinciotti, professor of early childhood and elementary education at East Stroudsburg University.
Developed by NCC in conjunction with Crayola, Art as a Way of Learning fosters children’s development by building from their natural languages, including visual arts, drama, music, dance, movement and storytelling. This curriculum has been adopted by many schools and child care centers locally and across the country.
The NAEYC’s Annual Conference is the largest early childhood education conference in the world and is attended by tens of thousands of educators.
