Northampton captured its 3rd consecutive Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Championship on Saturday with a convincing 17-1 victory over Luzerne County Community College. Katie Bee went 3 for 4 with 7 RBI's while Kristy Kroll went 3 for 4 at the plate and earned the save on the mound in relief of winning pitcher Britt Rhinehart. The Spartans, now 24-6, will host Harford Community College (MD) on Wednesday in their last regular season game before hosting the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association State Championship series May 3rd or 4th vs. Westmoreland Community College.
TENNIS
Northampton Community College freshman Megan Groh defeated Rebekah Reyes of Harrisburg CC 6-0; 6-1 to win the PCAA Women’s Singles Championship played at the Hillcrest Racquet Club. While the scores seem to indicate an easy victory, nothing could be farther from the truth. Reyes fought Groh on every point but every time there was a critical point Groh seemed to be able to lift her game to a higher level to secure the victory. Megan plans to return to NCC next year to defend her title. Groh and teammate Eden Fimiano also advanced to the finals in doubles where they were defeated by Liz Clark and Erin Neidig of Harrisburg 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 7-6 (8-6). Both Groh and Fimiano were named PCAA All State.
In Men's Doubles NCC's Mark Pugliese and Brad Moser advanced to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champions Tuanah Ly and Kristan Wilson of CCCP.
In Men's Singles Jonathan Snyder placed 3rd, winning a Bronze Medal. Snyder finished the season with an 11-1 record and was named EPCC All-Conference.
All team members contributed points for the Spartans to secure their 2nd place finish.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The Northampton men's volleyball team advanced to the EPCC championship on Saturday, but fell in a tough 3-game match to Harrisburg Area Community College, 19-25, 25-20, 8-15. NCC defeated the Community College of Philadelphia to advance to the title game. NCC finishes the season with a record of 4-7.
BASEBALL
Geoge Huha went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base, but it wasn't enough as the Spartans fell to Bucks County Community College 17-4 in an EPCC match-up. Matt Monti, Ron Vail and Chris Charette each had an RBI for NCC, which falls to 3-5 overall. The Spartans host Delaware County Community College on Tuesday in their last regular season game.
