Ken Hart, an education major at the Monroe Campus, had an experience two years ago that changed his life. A single father, and barely able to walk after a post-operative infection in his leg, Ken awoke to a 2 a.m. commotion outside his Mount Pocono home. Gang members were spray-painting graffiti in his neighborhood.
Ken called the police and the gang was dispersed. The incident led him to become more involved with his neighbors and take positions on the Borough Park and Recreation Board and the Pocono Area Recreation Commission to help encourage and provide positive outlets for local youth.
When several members of the Guardian Angels visited the Pocono area, Ken decided to help establish a chapter in Stroudsburg. Active in many parts of the country, the Guardian Angels are a group of unarmed citizens who patrol for crime in their neighborhoods.
On March 27th, Ken and Stroudsburg resident David Piccioni held an introductory meeting with concerned citizens from Marshalls Creek to Tobyhanna. As an education major, Ken says he is interested in the various school-related programs offered by the Angels and the crime prevention education they provide to communities.
Ken requests that anyone interested in learning more about the Stroudsburg Chapter of the Guardian Angels should contact the chapter leader David Piccioni at 570-421-8933 or e-mail Ken, the assistant chapter leader, at cowboy31@ptd.net.
