Mardi Gras, Monroe Style!
February 20, 2008

What’s the difference between Tannersville, Pennsylvania and New Orleans, Louisiana? Not much! On Tuesday, February 12, the Community Room was transformed into Mardi Gras central.

The actual Fat Tuesday might have been held the week before, but that did not deter the revelers from donning colorful beads and masks in order to celebrate the carnival festival New Orleans style!

Even the threat of a messy snowstorm couldn’t keep people away. Maybe it was the chance to throw a pie in the face of Dr. Matt Connell, dean of the Monroe Campus, which drew them in. The pie toss raised $80 towards the Student Fund for the Monroe Campus expansion.

Who doesn’t love a good competitive eating contest? Six brave students (right) lined up to see who could down the most hot dogs in three minutes. The winner was J.P. Page who scarfed down seven franks and took home a $25 prize.

People got all tangled up over the Twister Tournament. Right foot, yellow has never been so exciting – or complicated! The last man or woman standing would take home a $25 prize, so the competition was fierce. But in the end the best human pretzel, student Chauncey (far left)  prevailed!

Is that Celisa Counterman, math instructor, on the right?

Like many
Monroe events, it was a day of fun, friends and food!
