The Monroe Nursing Student Organization (NSO) held a blood pressure screening at the Monroe Campus on
February, 5, 2008
. The NSO is a group of student nurses who gain awareness and understanding of those in need of medical assistance through community service, as well as personal and professional fulfillment.

The blood pressure screening was a huge success. 126 students, faculty, staff, and
community members stopped by to have their blood pressure checked. It was standing room only in the "pump-up" room as entire classes crowded in. Many students stood in line as their professors promised them extra credit to show their support. Families from a neighborhood VFW and members of the West End Ambulance Core also attended.

Nursing students
Michael Heffren, Kimberly Float, Pamela Wilson, and Patricia Bauer took turns greeting the patients, signing them in, and reading blood pressures in the “pump-up” room. Each patient left the blood pressure screening with their blood pressure numbers, informational pamphlets, and good advice about diet and exercise.
Combining education, health, and community service has never been this much fun!
