Club-Hopping, Anyone?
by Lisbeth Saveri    January 31, 2008

This semester's welcome back party and club fair not only brought everyone in from the cold for some food and fun, it even got them dancing. Students gathered in Laub Lounge on Northampton Community College ’s Main Campus on Thursday, January 31, to check out the various clubs and organizations Northampton has to offer. A record number of college groups participated including Band of Brothers, the college literary magazine, the honors program, Jam Dancers, Science Club, and at least 30 more. Community organizations like Fountain Hill Elementary School and the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center also attended.

The event began with music provided by a local DJ who got into tune with the students by playing various hip-hop and dance songs. A crowd gathered as groups of students (and a few faculty and staff members) got up to bust a move to the cha-cha slide, electric slide, and other popular dances.

Amidst all the dancing and "club-hopping," Northampton provided the students with hoagies, cookies and chips. Computers were set up so students could try out some video games, and free chair massages were offered so students could relax as they make their way back into another fun-filled semester.

Club representatives were enthusiastic and welcoming as students visited their tables. Many provided hand-outs about their group’s activities. Some even gave away free pencils or drink holders. As always, food was a popular attraction, including the famous candy piles that everyone seemed to dive for.

Theatre major Ana McCaw was impressed with the turn-out at the Welcome Back Fair. She’s also impressed with NCC: "I can't even begin to explain how great Northampton is. Being a theatre major here is like being part of one big family. I'm glad I decided to begin my education at NCC," she said.

Big family indeed, based on the size of the crowd! Hundreds of students, faculty and staff stopped by, including President Scott and NCC’s mascot, Sam Spartan, who chatted with students and showed off some of his dance moves.

A good time was had by all!
