Super Bowl Fever
By An Anonymous Author         February 1, 2008

True confessions: At Northampton Community College interest in Super Bowl XLII isn’t purely academic. Sport management majors may be watching the game with an eye to how it’s run. Marketing students may be grading the commercials, but most of us will be cheering on our favorite team.

The New England Patriots have a perfect record of 18-0 and the reputation of being one of the greatest football teams in history, but Patriots’ fans were hard to find at NCC on Friday when folks were invited to show their colors by wearing “Jeans & Jerseys.”

Was the predominance of Giants jerseys due to admiration for the team’s dramatic come-from-behind finish in the regular season? Was it due to the New York roots of many NCC students, faculty and staff? Or was it because when the college president is happy, life is good?

A long-time Giants’ fan, President Scott hasn’t stopped gloating (make that smiling) since the team took advantage of their wild card berth and downed Dallas and Green Bay to capture the conference championship. He’s predicting a 31-30 victory for the G-Men on Sunday.

One of the few Pats’ fans courageous enough to be seen on campus in a Patriots’ jersey wasn’t buying it. “No one’s actually picking the Giants to win, are they?” kidded Randy Brodhead, a systems technician in Computer Services.  You were kidding, weren’t you, Randy?

Giants' fans come in all sizes. Business management major Debbie Gore tries to concentrate. You can't go wrong rooting for the home team! English lesson or review of playbook? Maybe in Graham's lifetime the Eagles will win the Super Bowl.
