The sun was shining and the sky was blue, but the temperature made it feel more like a fall bash! Despite the chill in the air,
Monroe students, faculty, and staff ventured outside to the back parking lot to play carnival games, hear live music, eat delicious foods, mix and mingle, and just have fun!
“We’ve been planning this since the beginning of the semester,” Student Governance President Brandon Reed said. “The other clubs came together and everyone helped out.”
The clubs who helped sponsor the event, along with Student Governance, were the Film Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Pan African, Criminal Justice, Communication Studies, Science Club, Christian Fellowship, Education Association, and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) Student Union and Allies.
The LGBT Club hosted a pie-toss. Faculty, staff, and students volunteered to be sitting targets for paper plates piled high with whip cream. Bonnie Schneider, president of LGBT, enjoyed the bash.
“Two years ago they had a different end of the year celebration,” she said. “It was indoors, in the Community Room, and it didn’t have the same feeling as this one. I’m glad they did it this year and I hope they do it again.”
Beatriz Villar got pied!
Student Governance member David Gonzalez felt the event was a nice way to say goodbye to graduating students.
“It’s our farewell,” David said. He is transferring to East Stroudsburg University.

In addition to a DJ, the bash had live music provided by A Split Screen Romance. The band is made up of mostly NCC students. Usually people would have to travel to Crocodile Rock or the Sherman to hear this band, but today they were able to enjoy A Split Screen Romance free at the Monroe Campus. The band writes all its own music and lists among its influences A Day to Remember and Silverstein.
The Film Society’s “Stump the Tindell” game drew an enthusiastic crowd as players were quizzed on film trivia against John Tindell, assistant professor of speech and faculty advisor to the Film Society. Some of the trivia questions asked were: What was the name of the Indian princess that Peter Pan rescues? In what film did Rob Reiner make his directorial debut? Who was the second-ever animated character to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? (Are you stumped? The answers are in order: Tiger Lily, This is Spinal Tap, and Bugs Bunny.)
A spontaneous game of touch football took place, and the back lot was also the perfect place for skateboarding.
