Monroe Student Celebration. The event included make-your-own sundaes and a swingin’ jazz trio.
Associate professor Bina Patel presented Elizabeth A. Muller with the Monroe County Association for the Education of Young Children Award.
Mary Sinibaldi recognized the Monroe Leadership Class, and Brandon Reed of that class presented assistant professor John Tindell with the Club Advisor of the Year Award for his work with the Monroe Film Society (left).
Assistant professor Erin Reilly honored three students for their “Concepts of Genocide” artwork. First-place went to Natalie Tobon with second and third place going to Jessica Johansson and Christine Mally, respectively.
David Miller (right) was honored as Peer Tutor of the Year as well as Northampton National Student Employee of the Year. Miller works as a math and computer science tutor in the Monroe Learning Center. John Bednar, Learning Center manager, presented the award and pointed out that Miller was chosen from a field of over 250 student employees. “He is a favorite among NCC students who are often ‘freaked out’ by math,” Bednar laughed.
Maia Rossiello was recognized by assistant professor John Leiser for winning the Trout Trails and Tales art competition sponsored by the Brodhead Watershed Association and Pocono Arts Council.
William Brown (left) was honored for Outstanding Participation & Leadership of the Monroe Campus Flag Football club.
State Phi Theta Kappa president Rich Jiosne was recognized, as were recent PTK inductees.
Dr. Art Scott recognized two members of the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, Lorna O’Farrell and Evette Olyszk (below).
In his closing remarks, Dr. Scott called the students being honored “extraordinary. You do amaze us each and every day, and we hope to amaze you in two years with an extraordinary campus. You recognize the value of service, of giving back outside of the classroom.”
Scott shared a quote that has stuck with him for 25 years, from a speech delivered by a Lehigh University president, “Service is the rent we owe for the air we breathe.”
