Some of the first students back on campus this fall were the soccer players who began pre-season workouts on August 19.
The team is hoping to build on last year's 4-10-3 record and to qualify for post-season play. Second-year coach Joe Heitczman likes what he sees. "We don't have a lot of returners, but the freshmen came into camp in shape and ready to go," he reports.
The women's volleyball team is already on the national radar. Four starters return from last year's squad which compiled a 22-1 record, captured a regional championship, and was ranked #9 among teams competing in Division III in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings. Returning players include first team all-region selections Anna Domyan and Ashley McCauley. The team will be coached by last year's Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference and Region XIX Coach of the Year Adrian Yaguez.
The women's tennis team will make its debut in the National Junior College Athletic Association under the leadership of Megan Groh who was the female athlete of the year at Northampton in 2009. A two-time state champion in singles and a two-time all-conference selection, Groh went on to play Division II tennis at Kutztown University where she earned a bachelor's degree in education.
Runners will have a chance to be part of NCC's first cross country team. The coed team will be coached by Greg Martin, an avid runner who is a residence hall director at the College. Runners will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association with an opportunity to advance to the national championships.
