Roger Ross Williams on The Daily ShowRoger Ross Williams  '83 was the featured guest on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Monday, January 13. Watch a clip of his appearance here.

Williams is a talented writer, producer and director whose news and entertainment shows have appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Discovery, and the Food Network.

He is perhaps best known for Music by Prudence,  a moving account of a young woman from Zimbabwe who became a successful singer and songwriter despite significant physical disabilities.  The documentary won an Academy Award  in 2010.

Williams' latest documentary, God Loves Uganda,  is on the short list of those being considered for a nomination for this year's Oscars®.  The nominees will be announced on Thursday, January 16.

Williams describes Northampton Community College as the place where he figured out what he wanted to do with his life.  After completing an associate degree at Northampton, he went on to earn a bachelor's in journalism and politics from New York University, before beginning his career.

He has been back to Northampton several times, including for a screening of Music by Prudence in 2010 and to deliver the commencement address in 2011.   In speaking with students, Williams said that his goal in making documentaries like Music by Prudence is to make a difference in the way people are treated.
