Mission Statement
A community of learners embracing uniqueness, inspiring respect and modeling the highest standards in early education sparked by the arts.
The Children's Centers are located on the Bethlehem campus and the Monroe campus
of the Northampton Community College.
Both centers serve children 6 weeks to kindergarten entry and are staffed by qualified teachers employed by the college. The Bethlehem and Monroe centers offer full and part time care and education on a semester, academic year or full year basis to children of NCC students, staff and the community.
In Bethlehem, Reibman Hall Children's Center features mixed age groupings in our Infant/Toddler wing for children 6 weeks to 3 years, and a Preschool wing for children 3 years through kindergarten entry. The center serves as a Building Inclusive Child Care (BICC) Demonstration Site highlighting Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and family centered practices.
In Monroe, Hannig Family Children's Center is located in Tannersville in a renovated space for mixed age groupings of children from 6 weeks to kindergarten entry. Both centers are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We follow the Northampton Community College calendar and emergency and holiday closings.
The children's classrooms serve as lab sites for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Teachers utilize strategies
and techniques central to Art as a Way of Learning ® and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to plan and implement curriculum. The Children's Centers and Early Childhood Education Department work in partnership to develop a curriculum that models best practices and is developmentally appropriate.
The Children's Centers are licensed by the Department of Public Welfare (DPW) and are rated four-star facilities through the state of Pennsylvania's Keystone Stars program. Both centers are also accredited by NAEYC and The Middle States Association for Colleges and Schools.
Philosophy
At Northampton Community College Children's Centers we believe that children learn through play, exploration, and discovery. Children grow to their full potential in an environment that is supportive, rich, and challenging. Learning focuses on the whole child by encouraging cognitive, physical, social/emotional growth as well as creative expression with our arts-based curriculum in a universally designed for learning classroom (UDL). We nurture and educate each child, regardless of race, gender, ability, ethnicity, socio-economic standing, or religion. We believe that every child who enters our center is unique and competent and that the strong foundation laid here will support and create eager, lifelong learners.
