Going back to school? Need basic math skills to get a new job? Do you have a math phobia? Don’t let your fear of math hold you back. These Math Refresher courses are designed for you to brush up on your skills in a very supportive environment and give you the confidence you need to move forward. Sign up for one or all of the four courses. Each course will include: pre-testing to identify needs, workbook problems and class discussion. Textbook required, available from college bookstore. PLEASE NOTE: SAME TEXTBOOK USED FOR MATH REFRESHER COURSES 1, 2, 3, & 4.


CALA4016 Basic Math Refresher 1
Topics to be covered include: Definition of whole numbers and the number line. Whole number operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; Identities, commutative and associative properties; Estimate sums and differences; Exponents and order of operations; Averages and step-by-step procedure for solving word problems; Factoring composites and definition of prime numbers; Least common multiples, lowest common denominator and fractions; Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.

CALA4021 Basic Math Refresher 2
Topics to be covered include: Converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions; Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of decimals; Estimating sums, differences, products, and quotients of decimal equations; Introduction to algebra and the variable; Solving equations with one variable utilizing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

CALA4026 Basic Math Refresher 3
Topics to be covered include: Word problems using ratios, rates, proportions and percents; Converting decimals and fractions to percents; Addition and subtraction of signed numbers; Integers and absolute values.

CALA4031 Basic Math Refresher 4
Topics to be covered include: Multiplication and division of signed numbers; Word problems utilizing integers; Basic statistics including averages, mean, median, and mode; Interpreting tables and graphs; Basic algebraic applications including solving equations with one variable; Solving multi-step equations; Word problems using formulas; Basic geometry including definition of angles; Types of triangles; Perimeter and circumference area of a polygon in a circle.
