Tech Prep at Your School

How can you tell if your school has a Tech Prep program?

  1. You identify your Tech Prep students as individuals who are concentrators in a unique program of study that has the following characteristics:
    • The program is planned as a four-year sequence, two at the secondary level and two at the postsecondary level.  The secondary level program includes both an academic and technical sequence of experience, the latter of which can either be school-based or work-based.
    • The program has an occupational identity that can either be occupation-specific or a group of occupations, directly related to a particular Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) as outlined in the list of Pennsylvania Approved Vocational Programs.
    • The program has one or more articulation agreements with relevant postsecondary providers among which is Northampton Community College.
    • The program culminates in a related postsecondary associate degree, a 2-year certificate program (one year of which can be an internship or other work-based educational experience), or a registered apprenticeship.
  2. Your Tech Prep students complete a unique two-year academic course sequence identifiable in a course selection guide.
  3. Your Tech Prep students complete a unique two-year skills component that meets the state guidelines for an approved vocational program or an approved work-based vocational program.
  4. Your Tech Prep students plan to matriculate in postsecondary technical education or pursue full-time employment in a occupation related to the Tech Prep program they have completed.
