Omar McGill, Theatre major

John W. and Annette Arnts Communication Scholarship Recipient

Omar McGill is a giver. After graduating from Liberty High School, he postponed his college education to work and help his mother with household expenses. Now that he's at NCC he has poured himself into improving life for his fellow students, making the most of opportunities for leadership. He has served as Student Senate secretary and as a summer orientation leader and was active in the Outdoors Club and the Sister-to Sister, Brother-to-Brother Club. He works at Applebee's and has done volunteer work at SteelStacks. Now most of his time is devoted to theatre. A talented actor, he won the lead role in the NCC production of Honky. He looks forward to transferring to a four-year college or university as a film major. "The scholarship tells me that people believe in me, and that I am doing the right thing in life," Omar says. "Each semester I push myself to do more. I will keep striving."

students are more than three times more likely to complete their education than students who are unsure about how they are going to pay for college.
