General College Policies Regarding Inclement Weather
When the weather's bad…
Weather-related closings and delays are prominently announced on the College's Web site (www.northampton.edu). A decision will be made before 6 a.m. and posted on the site shortly after. (If weather conditions are changing, check back for an update.) You can also call NCC's weather hotline at 610-861-4595, 24 hours a day, or tune into local radio and TV stations for the latest information.
The following actions may occur:
Classes canceled
This action is reserved for hazardous conditions that continue to develop during the morning, showing no signs of stopping. If the hazardous conditions continue, a decision concerning the cancellation of evening classes will be made by 3 p.m. This decision will also be announced on the website and also on radio and TV. The cancellation of day classes does not imply the cancellation of evening classes. These are two separate actions. Class & Event Cancellations
Snow schedule
The snow schedule involves starting classes at 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes affected by the snow schedule are canceled. This announcement will be posted on the Web site. The normal schedule will be maintained after the starting time. This course of action will be taken after a storm that makes early morning driving conditions hazardous, but when there is an indication that road crews will have conditions under control by mid-morning.
Hold classes as normal
This action is taken when hazardous conditions exist in one section of the county, but do not affect the entire county. Faculty members will use these class sessions for students who are able to attend class to provide those students with individualized attention and review of special projects. A cancellation of class when some students are able to attend while a portion are not, is not considered to be fair policy. When hazardous driving conditions do exist in a portion of the county, students who are unable to attend class because of those conditions will not be penalized by the instructor and will be permitted to make up tests or other assignments scheduled for that day. Note: If there is no alert on the home page, classes are operating on a normal schedule. Check back for updates if conditions worsen.
