Rooms and Amenities

The Residence Hall and Apartments at Northampton provide students the opportunity to reside on campus to be closer to their classes, become part of the on campus community, focus on their academics and take advantage of the multiple educational and fun opportunities offered to our students.

For students to be eligible to live on campus they need to be registered for a minimum of 12 credits each semester. In addition to maintain their eligibility to reside on campus each semester residents must meet the academic standards outlined in the Residence Hall Handbook.

For students to be eligible to reside in the Apartments in addition to meeting the requirements listed above, students must maintain a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA).  Students who fall below the required GPA will be reassigned to a space in the residence hall for the following semester.

The Residence Hall is comprised of mostly double occupancy rooms, however the building does offer triple and quad rooms as well.  There are a limited number of single rooms available in the Residence Hall, however our returning students have priority in selecting them.

Each room in the Residence Hall and Apartment is slightly different, we will not able to provide you with specific dimensions of your rooms.  However, each student is provided with a bed (XL Twin Mattresses), a dresser, desk chair, desk and closet.

Room Prices for the Fall 2020 Semester

The prices below indicate the cost per semester for a room on campus.  Meal plans are required for each on campus resident, for meal plan pricing please visit the Residential Dining Page.

Residence Hall Double Room: $2,898.00 for the semester

  • Students living in the Residence Hall Commons can request to have a double room with a roommate
  • Students choosing to live with a roommate must follow the steps and guidelines outlined below:
    • Students will only be permitted to live with a roommate if each roommate agrees to live with the other person. Our office will NOT be assigning roommates. If a student does not select a roommate - the student will be assigned to a single room for the semester.
    • There will be NO ROOM CHANGES under any circumstances during the Fall semester. Please choose your roommate carefully; once your room assignment is complete - it cannot be changed.
    • Students that choose to live with a roommate will need to sign a waiver issued by the College that acknowledges that they have selected to live with another person and that the student understands the potential risks of sharing a living space with another person.

Residence Hall Single Room: $3,248.00 for the semester

  • All students living in the Residence Hall Commons will be automatically assigned to single rooms due to the pandemic, unless they opt to live in a double room or apartment.

Apartment Single Room: $3,277.00 for the semester

  • Students living in the Apartments will be housed in single rooms (so two (2) students per apartment instead of 4)

On Campus Amenities

The Dining Hall is conveniently located in the Residence Hall Commons and is open 7 days a week while classes are in session.  The Dining Hall offers a wide variety of options each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The menu changes daily to allow for a greater variety of food for the students in addition to the grill and pizza station that are open every day.  All resident students are required to purchase a meal plan.  For further information on dining services, meal plan options and costs please visit the Residential Dining Page.  There is also a late night snack bar, the Den that is open to residents after the dining hall closes.

Laundry Rooms are available in the Residence Hall and are available to all on campus residents for use.  Students that reside in the on campus Apartments also have access to the washers and dryers in the residence hall, as they do not have a separate laundry room located in the apartments.  All of the machines are high efficiency machines, so please buy HE detergent when you are buying supplies to bring to campus (laundry detergent pods are a great choice)!  All washers and dryers are free of charge to residential students so need to worry about having quarters or putting money on a laundry card!

There are multiple lounges in the Residence Hall that provide space for studying, socializing and relaxing.  Each lounge is equipped with a large screen TV, couches, chairs and tables.  Students can utilize these spaces 24 hours a day and the Housing Staff use the spaces as well for evening and weekend programming.  In addition, there is also a game room located in the residence hall for student use. 

Each resident student will receive a mailbox number when they arrive on campus.  Mail is delivered to the residence hall Monday through Friday each week while classes are in session.  Students that receive packages will receive an email to their Spartan email indicating they need to stop by the College Mail room located in College Center to pick up their package.  Mail sent to students should be addressed as follows:

The Residence Hall and the Apartments both offer Wi-Fi connectivity at no additional cost to the residents.  Cable TV is available in all lounges in the Residence Hall, but is not available in the apartments or individual rooms. 

If a student encounters a problem or concern in their room that is facilities related, students can submit a work order by emailing workorder@northampton.edu and someone from the Facilities area will reach out to them to best address the problem or concern.  If a student encounters an issue over the weekend they can submit a work order as outlined above and someone from the staff will reach out to them on the next business day.  If they need immediate assistance they can ask the Front Desk to contact the On Call staff member for residence life or security to further assess the situation.
