Deck The (Penn) Halls!
It's a December tradition at Northampton Community College's Bethlehem Campus! Brothers Dan and Darryl Peters, NCC biology and chemistry lab technicians, transform the second floor of Penn Hall with lights, wreaths, trees, Santas, snowmen, and so much more.
The Peters brothers have been making Penn Hall festive for over thirty years now. "When we first started, it was only a couple of decorated shelves in one window, but over the years it has grown to encompass the whole second floor," shared Darryl. "We love the holidays and want to give the students a little cheer during a time when so many of them are stressed out by end-of-semester deadlines."
The stress-buster works. In fact, students, faculty and staff love it so much that some bring in their children to see it, too. The smiles it brings to so many and comments like "It makes me feel like a kid again," "Made my day," Wish you could come decorate my house!" and "It lifted my spirits," are what motivate Dan and Darryl to return every year on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving to set it all up.
If you're impressed with what you see in Penn Hall, you can only imagine what the Peters' own home looks like. "We inherited our love of Christmas from our mother. When we were young, we would help out with the decorating. Now our own home is full-on Christmas with every room decorated to the hilt!" Darryl said.
New to the display this year are bears learning to be angels, the gentleman mouse decked out in his new red jacket as he stops by the Cookie Factory, Olaf from Disney's "Frozen" and more lights and giant snowflakes.
If you need a jolt of the holiday spirit, be sure to come on over and enjoy the sights and sounds. You'll be ho-ho-hoing before you know it! View more photos in this gallery.
