NCC Student is Awarded Walgreen's Pharmacy Scholarship

Razia Ortiz, healthcare office coordinator major

Myra Saturen,

Razia Ortiz, a resident of East Stroudsburg and a student at the Monroe Northampton Community College Campus, has been awarded a scholarship offered by Walgreen’s Pharmacy in conjunction with the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).  The scholarship recognizes PTK members in allied health programs.  A member of the class of winter 2021, Razia is majoring in healthcare office coordinator.

In addition to being a student, Ortiz is also a busy wife and the mother of two.

Ortiz decided to enroll at NCC because of its reputation for excellent staff and faculty and the College’s welcoming atmosphere.  “The classes are very structured,” she says.  “Each faculty member is always there to help and guide you.”  She says that NCC has made her a better person in many ways, including becoming a better speaker and writer and learning to interact with people from all walks of life.

Her experience being a PTK member has further enriched her NCC experience.  There, she has met many people and had rewarding opportunities for personal growth.

Razia’s immediate plan for after graduation is to obtain a position in her field at a prestigious hospital. Ultimately, she hopes to manage an entire hospital.  She says that she has always been excellent with handling and managing paper work. Recently diagnosed with lupus and Lyme disease, she struggled with symptoms that were “unreal.” Nevertheless, she is steadfast in pursuing her goals. Her diagnoses further convinced her that healthcare office work would be a good fit for her.

About the healthcare office coordinator program and NCC altogether, she says, “I would tell anyone interested in this career path or any other that choosing NCC will be the best decision they ever made.”
