Meet Nikki

Nikki loves to rearrange shoes and slippers by moving them to different rooms.

Your name:   Kathy Kapcsos

Job title/department:   Director, Institutional Research

What is your dog’s name?   Nikki

How old is your dog?   13

Pure breed or mixed mutt?   Chocolate Lab/Golden Retriever

What is your dog’s gender?   Female

Describe your dog in three words:  Loving, silly, smiley

What is the thing your dog cannot live without?    Attention.

Can your dog do tricks? If so, what?   Yes, her favorite trick is retrieving the newspaper, but she also does high five, shake sit, stay, sit-up, go home, come, and down.

What is the best trick your dog has taught you?   Scratching her ears & chest (she's very demanding and will paw at you until you do).

Do you have a nickname for your dog?   Nik, baby girl, smiley, stinks, stinky dink, snickers, pup pup, pupper do, honey bear...the list goes on and on (it's a wonder she knows her name).

Does your dog enjoy bath time?   Absolutely not! Shakes at the mere suggestion.

You know your dog is in a good mood when he/she does this:    She smiles when she wants to play. She'll bring you a toy, race through the house, toss her bed around, or bite her blanket. She's very playful and goofy.

Your dog’s favorite spot to hangout is:   under tables

Favorite toy:   Soft toys with squeakers.

One habit you would love to change:   Her fear of thunder/fireworks.

Does your dog prefer to play with people, or other dogs?    Definitely people.

Does your dog like children?   Likes all people.

If you could ask your dog one question and they’d be able to answer it, what would it be?    How do you feel? (She was diagnosed with liver cancer in August.)

Can your dog read your emotions?    Sometimes; especially if that person is sad or not feeling well.

Funniest moment you’ve had with your dog:   When she tucks her head under her front legs while standing; lays on her back and tries to swat at you with her front paws; sits in front of a person who is sleeping and stares at them; races around the house like a lunatic; stalks rabbits or squirrels, which she thoroughly dislikes being in her yard (has never gotten close, but if she could climb trees...); or finds people when they hide from her.

What is the most rewarding aspect of owning your dog? The unconditional love; always happy to see her family when we come home.

Additional Comments:  She loves her family and hates to be left home alone so she takes our shoes/slippers and either puts them in her bed or rearranges them by moving them to different rooms (takes one person's shoe from their room, takes it to another, and takes their shoe and moves it to the other person's). She doesn't chew them though, just rearranges them! She was diagnosed with liver cancer in August and so we are spending our days just giving her all the love and attention that she wants and deserves, while making her comfortable. She rules the house right now!
