Welcome to the NCC Fab Lab

An introduction to the fabrication lab on Southside Bethlehem

Jeffrey Boerner,

First things first, a brief introduction.  The NCC Fab Lab is located at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem, PA.  We offer non-credit classes and we're open to the community!  The Fab Lab started with a vision from Paul Pierpoint, former VP of Community Education.   His vision was to create an informal space where anyone including entrepreneurs, artisans, students and retirees, could have access to state-of-the art equipment and expert instruction that promotes innovation.  In 2009, his vision became a reality when the doors to the Fab Lab opened! In almost 10 years, we have grown from 3 to over 25 instructors and from 6 to over 150 course offerings!

In two months, we will be expanding our footprint again.  The Fab Lab will occupy just over 8,000 square feet of the 1st floor of the Fowler Family Southside Center.

Our classes range from beginner to intermediate, and most do not require any previous knowledge on the subject matter.  We offer classes in woodworking, metal working, guitar repair, 3D Printing, laser engraving, electronics and more!  The Fab Lab has a sound booth with a dedicated engineer to assist you with your audio recording projects.

The Luthier Certification Program combines old-world craftsmanship with modern manufacturing.  As you learn how to build stringed instruments from scratch, you will also be introduced to technology that is incorporated into manufactured guitars such as: CNC, laser engraving/inlay, electronics and more.  There is a free Luthier Information session the 1st Wednesday of each month.

Our expert instructors have helped many entrepreneurs with product prototyping.  Of our 28 instructors, 17 are entrepreneurs themselves.  They will share their expertise!

Whether you are prototyping a new product idea, improving on an existing one or just crafting for fun, the Fab Lab offers the tools and intellectual resources you need to dream, design and create!
