Alan "Char" Hartley, is an Executive Chef with Sodexo, a worldwide food service contractor. He is an adjunct professor at Northampton Community College teaching noncredit cooking classes at the main campus, and demonstration classes at the Fowler Center. An Executive Chef for the last 19 years, he has held many other positions in the food industry including: dishwasher, Sous Chef, Dining Room manager, Pantry Supervisor and Chef Manager with a total of 26 years in the business.
Hartley has received many certificates and awards for competitions over the years, placing first in a "Sodexo Smack down", and is a council member for the Hampton Winds restaurant.
His philosophy for teaching is simple: the student is in class because they want to be, they expect a level of professionalism, and positive communication. He tries to bring his real life experiences to the classroom to make the material more animated.
