English, History and Philosophy Career Options

As previously mentioned, a background in English can be applied to a number of careers, as can the superior writing skills English majors often possess. Many English majors also possess creative, flexible minds that can offer fresh approaches to situations in several types of workplaces.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov), employment in writing-related fields is expected to grow 6 percent by 2020, though a degree in this field could lead to many other types of occupations.

History
Careers that you can enter into with a background or degree in history include: analyst, archivist, broadcaster, campaign worker, congressional aide, foundation staffer, information specialist, journalist, legal assistant, lobbyist, personnel manager, public relations staffer, researcher, teacher or museum staffer or specialist. Most importantly, those with a background in history can act as advocates for keeping the past alive.

Philosophy
Those with a background in philosophy sometimes pursue a graduate degree and become philosophy educators, but more often they go into law, medicine, business, journalism, public policy, business or government.

According to the Unites States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in political or law careers is expected to grow around 10 percent by 2020. Employment statistics will vary by career path, concentration and position.
