Grant will fund emergency medical training for high school students
Northampton Community College (NCC) is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from the PPL Foundation to purchase equipment for its Emergency Medical Training Program for high school students in Monroe County. The program prepares students to become certified Emergency Medicine Responders (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) while earning college credit in courses that feature hands-on instruction during the school day.
“EMT is a high priority occupation in the Poconos. We are grateful to PPL for this grant, which will help train students for service and careers critical to the needs of the community and workforce,” says Dr. Judith Rex, NCC dean of Allied Health and Sciences.
In January 2019, NCC launched the EMR and EMT training initiative at East Stroudsburg North and South High Schools, through a partnership with the school district, to strengthen educational opportunities for students. The Emergency Medicine Training Program creates a pathway to volunteer service that sustains the community and offers skills to gain employment in a high demand occupation.
The PPL Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.
