Jaden Makovsky,

Northampton Community College kicked off the 2015 New Student Orientation on June 16 and 17 with a beach theme, food andNCC Mascot Sam Spartan shows off his hula-hooping skills at Orientation! fun!

"The goal of orientation is for students to feel connected to the NCC family, community, and environment," says Mitchell Murtha, assistant dean of students. With this goal in mind, staff, faculty, and student leaders are on site to assist attendees in forming campus connections, explain the student expectations of NCC, and encourage campus involvement. Orientation dates are scheduled at both the Bethlehem and Monroe campuses throughout June and July.

Students couldn't help but smile as they shared their #nccspartans pride. Photos of orientation will be posted on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook through July. If you are attending orientation, share your photos using our hashtag #nccspartans! You'll be automatically entered to win a $25 gift card to the bookstore.

Meet the new #nccspartans! What to expect at Orientation? Early arrivals have the opportunity to tour the residence halls, and return to the quad for check in and refreshments at 11:15 AM. Light fare, including sandwiches, snow cones, and fresh popcorn, is provided. Students and parents are then greeted in Lipkin Theatre by eager staff and current students. There, new students have the opportunity to be interactive during a game involving beach balls and music.

"We want students to feel comfortable talking and asking questions during their time here. Asking questions is how you learn," adds Murtha.

Students and parents will receive answers to their questions through concurrent sessions throughout orientation. New students will learn the necessary resources to succeed at NCC through "Personal Narratives," "Campus Life and Support Services," and "My NCC & Placement Strategies." Parents participate in a separate program - with specialized concurrent sessions - designed to provide them with information to help their sons or daughters succeed in college. Parents also have the chance to meet faculty, take a tour of campus, and much more.

Toward the end of orientation, new students get to meet faculty members and advisors of their academic programs. These individuals will provide an overview of academic programs and requirements and help students register for fall 2015 courses.

Both parents and students meet in the Student Life Zone to reunite by 5:15 PM. Though it certainly is a long day, Mitchell Murtha hasMeet the new #nccspartans! kept student satisfaction as a top priority when developing Northampton Community College's orientation schedule: "We hope students have a good time and enjoy themselves at Orientation."
